Tree Planting Programs
It's no secret, I love trees! The City of Irvine has launched two new initiatives to promote a greener future and expand our urban forest. In partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, the Residential Tree Giveaway provides residents with free, climate-appropriate trees, along with planting and care guidance. Additionally, the Sponsor a Tree program allows community members to support tree planting in parks and public spaces in honor of loved ones or special occasions.

Great news! The City Council has given the green light with unanimous approval for the exciting expansion of the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center and the development of new parking facilities at Heritage Park. Irvine Global Trade Day
On May 7, I had the distinct honor of participating with the Greater Irvine Chamber in celebrating the inaugural Irvine Global Trade Day. The event featured a special proclamation and ribbon-cutting ceremony, emphasizing Irvine’s vital position as a leading gateway for international collaboration. Designating the first Thursday of May as Irvine Global Trade Day highlights the critical role of global partnerships in strengthening our local economy. With a thriving presence of international companies, Irvine continues to serve as a hub for opportunity, innovation, and global engagement.
Balt USA Grand Opening
This week, I had the pleasure of joining the Balt team to celebrate the grand opening of their second Irvine location. With 450 employees now based in Irvine, Balt has established itself as a leader in neurointerventional innovation, creating physician-inspired devices to address complex medical conditions. This growth underscores Balt’s rapid development and unwavering dedication to advancing patient care through state-of-the-art technology since 1977.
Cityside Fiber Infrastructure Update
Many of you have reached out with questions regarding the status and timeline of our high-speed internet expansion, so I want to share the following update provided by Cityside Fiber. We are currently starting in neighborhoods west of I-405 (University Park, Turtle Rock, etc.) and will be starting neighborhoods east of I-5 (Northwood, etc.) later this year. We are also preparing plans and applying for permits to construct neighborhoods between I-5 and I-405 (Woodbridge, etc.) later this year, with construction likely starting late this year or early 2027. One of the reasons for this phasing is to work with the City’s pavement maintenance program, which typically occurs after we complete fiber installation in the neighborhoods. We are very excited about bringing next-generation telecommunications infrastructure to the City of Irvine and appreciate the cooperation and working relationship with the City.
