QuickReads | Summer in Irvine: Safety, Service & Community Connections

Summer in Full Swing: Safety, Service and Student Spotlights — from diving into water safety at the Super Swim Lesson to celebrating our youth baseball champs at City Hall, July is off to a vibrant start in Irvine! We’re also excited about the expanded Irvine CONNECT shuttle service, upcoming youth-focused events, and a chance to get your library card at a local pop-up.

Calling All Students! Join me at City Hall for a special Mornings with the Mayor — Youth Edition! A chance for students to engage, ask questions, and learn more about the City of Irvine. All are welcome!

We had a fun evening at Irvine’s Super Swim Lesson, where our team helped promote water safety and connect with local families. And don’t forget — you can swap out unsafe floaties for U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets at Woollett Aquatics Center while supplies last.

William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center

4601 Walnut Ave., Irvine, CA 92604

Open daily from 6 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Update! My initiative to make Irvine the greenest City in America has reached a major milestone. The Sustainability Commission has recommended City Council adoption of the Urban Forest Master Plan — a 30-year roadmap to expand and care for Irvine’s tree canopy. I first brought this forward in 2023, recognizing how vital trees are to our daily lives. They cool our neighborhoods, clean the air, and make Irvine a more beautiful, livable City. The plan focuses on increasing tree plantings, strengthening tree management practices, and partnering with residents, HOAs, and landowners to protect and expand Irvine’s green infrastructure.

As of July 1, Irvine CONNECT’s free shuttle service has expanded! Whether you’re heading to school, work, or the park, this upgraded route links even more neighborhoods to key Irvine destinations — including Irvine Station. I encourage you to take advantage of this program.

Big cheers to the Northwood Little League AA Orioles! The City of Irvine celebrated their District Tournament of Champions win at City Hall on Tuesday — what an amazing achievement for these talented young athletes representing Irvine with pride.

Stop by the pop-up event on Sunday, July 13, from 1–4 pm at Heritage Park Middle School’s YAT Office (14301 Yale Ave).

Bring a photo ID and proof of California residence — and if registering a child, make sure a parent or guardian comes along.
