From clearing brush to fresh paint and exterior touch-ups, it has been a busy month for the Department of Public Works & Sustainability! Over 400 goats are helping reduce wildfire risk in an eco-friendly way. Tennis courts at Valley Oak and Heritage Parks have been resurfaced and the replacement of safety lighting systems at 50 signalized intersections throughout the City is now complete.

At the Great Park, design is underway for new shade structures near soccer fields, play areas, and Championship Row and nearly two miles of multi-use pathways, designed with a focus on accessibility and sustainability. I encourage you to review the latest reports at tinyurl.com/bdcnwm3a and tinyurl.com/tzdeb9sr.

This month, I hosted a special Youth Edition of Mornings with the Mayor. It was terrific to see representation from all of the high schools, and I appreciated their great questions and curiosity.

I shared a little about myself and the importance of being a good listener, a skill that serves us all. Thank you to everyone who showed up and spoke up. The future of Irvine is in good hands!

There will be no Mornings with the Mayor in August, but we have something even cooler planned. Stay tuned!

Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of attending the Japanese American National Museum’s (JANM) Summer Fête at Tanaka Farms, a beautiful evening honoring community, culture, and history.

JANM’s mission to promote understanding of America’s cultural diversity through the Japanese American experience is as vital as ever. Thanks to farmer Glenn Tanaka, JANM President & CEO Anne Burroughs, and all the museum members and supporters who make this important work possible.

Hello! My name is Katie Le, and I am an intern for the Office of Mayor Larry Agran. I am a proud graduate of Portola High School and will be attending the University of Southern California this fall to pursue a degree in Public Policy. During my time at the Office of the Mayor, I explored the intersection of state education policy and its tangible effect on our local community. Every day was a new opportunity to meet constituents, engage with Irvine through a policy lens, and view the inner workings that shape governance. More than ever, I saw that the city thrives through collaboration between elected officials, community organizations, and the residents themselves. In a city like Irvine, progress doesn't rest on any on individual, it is a product of shared commitment.

Hi! My name is Jeshwin Chettiar, and I am one of the 2025 summer interns for the Office of Mayor Agran. I am a rising junior at Irvine High School. Throughout this internship, I was introduced to the multiple facets of Irvine's government. From attending Council meetings to harvesting crops with Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, I learned more about Irvine's diverse community. On a daily basis, I made connections and became more interested in our city's developments. This internship became not only a way to serve my community but also help me further my interest in public policy. As a result, I am eternally grateful for this opportunity and aim to continue my civic advocacy in the coming months.
