QuickReads | We Broke Ground on Irvine’s First City Gym

It’s a busy time at City Hall as we turn our vision into reality and celebrate Irvine. Recently, we broke ground on Irvine’s first City gym, launched our own Irvine Library card, and celebrated milestones with the Greater Irvine Chamber of Commerce and the Irvine Police Department’s 50th anniversary. I’m proud of our progress, City partners, and what’s ahead.

Breaking Ground on the Irvine Fieldhouse

Earlier this week, we officially broke ground on the Irvine Fieldhouse, a major milestone in expanding recreation and community infrastructure in our City.

Located at 17300 Red Hill Avenue in the Irvine Business Complex, this 110,000-square-foot facility will be Irvine’s first municipal indoor gymnasium.

Designed to meet local needs, the gym is scheduled to open in 2026. It will feature space for multiple indoor sports and serve as a hub for City-run programs, youth tournaments, and community events. We’re just getting started — there’s much more to come as we break ground and bring this vibrant new space to life.

Advocating for Continued State Support

As Mayor, I’ve seen how vital state-funded programs are for the well-being of Irvine families. That’s why I’m calling on state leaders to fully fund these key programs in the 2025–26 State Budget.

The Homeless Housing, Assistance and Prevention (HHAP) program, which has helped provide transitional housing for vulnerable students and families connected to our local schools and colleges. Read my letter.

The CalFood program and California Diaper Bank Network, which help address food insecurity and basic needs across the state. Read my letter.

Celebrating 50 Years of the Irvine Police Department

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Irvine Police Department, an important moment in our City’s history.

Through a sustained focus on community-based policing, IPD has played a central role in making Irvine one of the safest and most connected cities in the country.

We thank IPD for five decades of service, dedication, and partnership.

Celebrate Irvine: Honoring Innovation and Community Impact

I attended the Celebrate Irvine event, hosted by the Greater Irvine Chamber and City of Hope Orange County.

To see why Irvine continues to lead in innovation and community engagement, I encourage you to watch the event video HERE

Irvine Public Library Cards Now Available

The City’s first-ever library system launches this August — now’s the time to get your Irvine Public Library card! Cards are available at these upcoming events:

  • University Community Center: June 25 | 4–6 p.m.

  • Heritage Community Center: June 18 & July 2 | 4–6 p.m.

Previously part of the county system, Irvine now has the opportunity to create library services tailored to our community.

At a recent library community meeting, residents shared ideas on locations, design, and programs. I’m looking forward to what’s ahead.

Meeting with Our Community

It’s always a privilege to welcome residents into my office. These conversations — about challenges, ideas, and hopes for Irvine — are meaningful and help guide the work we do at City Hall. Thank you to everyone who’s taken the time to connect.

Upcoming Wildfire Preparedness & Insurance Town Hall

I invite you to join me and Councilmember Go on Wednesday, June 18, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Great Park, Hangar 244, for a Wildfire Preparedness & Insurance Town Hall. We'll hear from participating authorities on wildfire preparedness and insurance.
